RSD15 x DRRS x MonViso Institute

RSD15 is coming to Turin this year, as a global gathering of the systemic design community, opening space for dialogue, exchange, and shared reflection on how design can respond to complex challenges.

MVI & DRRS contribution to RSD15 in Turin

The contribution of the MonViso Institute (MVI) and the DRRS program – a joint offer by ETH Zurich and MVI – to the RSD15 conference in Turin builds on more than a decade of active engagement within the Systemic Design Association (SDA), a leading international community in advancing the field of systemic design.

MVI has been closely connected to this evolving discourse since its early days and hosted the first dedicated “De-conference” following RSD7 in 2018 at the MonViso Institute—at that time still in a very raw and emerging state. This long-standing engagement continues to inform both research and practice contributions.

At RSD15, MVI and ETH plan to contribute across several interconnected strands (subject to accepted submission by the organizers):

Methodological Pluralism & the Systemic Design Wheel of Inquiry
Presentation of the latest iteration of the systemic design wheel of inquiry as a navigational heuristic for working in complexity—integrating multiple ways of knowing and enabling more adaptive, context-sensitive interventions.

Systemic Cycles: From Sightseeing to Insightseeing to Insideseeing
Exploration of Systemic Cycles as an experiential methodology that shifts from external observation (“sightseeing”) to embodied understanding (“inside- and insightseeing”), including its scaling potential within a bioregional framework.

Designing Experimental Places & Spaces (DEPS)
Insights from nearly 12 years of research-practice at MVI, complemented by a growing network of experimental places and spaces. This contribution reflects on how such environments enable systemic learning, innovation, and regenerative transformation.

CAS 3 Cohort Session (Systemic Design)
A dedicated session led by participants of the ETH CAS in Systemic Design (CAS3), showcasing applied systemic design work and emerging practices.

MAS Alumni Thesis Pitching
Presentations from this year’s graduates of the ETH Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Regenerative Systems, sharing their master design theses.

Curated intervention (art–science–design)
A co-created intervention developed in collaboration with Art Now, the MVI partner and the RSD15 organizers, integrating artistic and scientific modes of inquiry to engage participants in an experiential exploration of systemic design – around music, food, and more.

MonViso Institute offers two more ways to extend the RSD experience through:
• the Post-RSD Retreat in Ostana – read more
• and the Systemic Design for Regenerative Practice course – read more

Together, these experiences create a journey from conference participation to mountain-based reflection, to deeper hands-on learning in regenerative practice. They invite participants not only to engage with the conversations of RSD15, but also to slow down, connect, and explore how systemic design can be lived and applied in place. For those joining RSD15 in Turin, this is an opportunity to continue the experience beyond the symposium and into a wider field of practice, community, and transformation.

See you soon!
